Are any other machine learning engineers feeling strangely pulled of late between two modes of operating and the uncanny feeling of convergence that arises? 1) Programming on topics increasingly centered on large language models 2) Adopting AI-enhanced tools without programming to automate life tasks For me it’s been #1 building large knowledge graphs for RAG applications and #2 exploring tools like NotebookLM, Adobe Acrobat AI Assistant, Google/OpenAI Deep Research to understand corpora of text larger than I can possibly read. The dichotomy results in a strange feeling that I should be coding while using an app and using an app while I’m coding. Smalltalk can be the only solution… Does anyone else feel this way and what are #1 and #2 for you?
